That Bad Bitch

This week, Forbes released their annual Cash Kings of Hip Hop list. There are plenty of surprises while some are expected. Like Jay-Z. He tops the list for the second year in a row! He raked in an estimated $63 million, which includes a worldwide tour (grossing about $1 million per show), co-ownership in the 40/40 club, and stake in the New Jersey Nets.

Jay-Z pulled in $63 million over the past 12 months, earning him his second straight hip-hop cash crown. His income level places him in the 35% tax bracket, which means he’ll pay Uncle Sam about $22 million this year–a sum greater than the total earnings of any other rap star besides second-ranked Diddy.

Thank goodness Haitians have some common sense. The election council in Haiti rejected Wyclef’s bid for presidency on the grounds that he has not lived in Haiti for over 5 years. Wyclef broke the news on his Twitter page.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Wyclef Jean, who actually thought he had hopes of running for president of Haiti despite the fact that he’s not a resident of the island, said:

Bad news people!!! The dating and marriage thing just got way trickier. According to a recent study, 20 per cent of people are in love with someone other than the person they are currently with. If you’re like me, in a relationship that seems to be headed to marriage, that statement has made you take another look at your relationship.

A recent poll of 3,000 people in relationships showed that one in five adults are actually in love with someone other than their significant other.

Beyonce is not the only celeb hustling for their clothing line. Nelly is in the Fall/Holiday 2010 Lookbook for his clothing line, Apple Bottom Jeans. Remember when rapper Nelly dropped Country Grammar? You wouldn’t have been able to convince me that he’d fall off so hard. You rarely ever hear anything about him these days.  I don’t know why I’ve never been drawn to his clothes. Just don’t feel right. Nelly is also keeping himself busy as a radio presenter for St. Louis’s Hot 104.1 FM. He will be filling in for another radio jock who is on maternity leave. The gig will last about a month. How the mighty have fallen.

We rarely ever see Halle giving interviews on her private life. She hasn’t given a proper interview in 3 years. Somehow, Vogue has managed to give us great insight into Halle, her thoughts on her split with her long time partner and baby’s father Gabriel, and how she views relationships now. Halle’s appearance on the cover of the fashion magazine is the first time a black woman is featured on the cover since Naomi Campbell’s 1989 cover. The only reason she is submitting now, she says, is that Vogue made her an offer she couldn’t refuse: the September cover. “What that means for a woman of color and what that means in the fashion world, what that means to pop culture, there was no way I could say, ‘No, I’m not going to be on the biggest issue of the year.’”

On her relationship with Gabriel:

The debate has always been fierce about who should wear the crown of Greatest Rapper Of All Time. Kanye West was interviewed by Angie Martinez of Hot 96 yesterday. Angie asked Kanye who he looks to as someone who makes him work harder. You’ll be surprised to know that the man with the humongous ego did not give his own name. He responded:

I love gadgets. I love phones, cameras, even kitchen gadgets. However, for some reason I’m hopelessly attached to my ancient phone. Ancient compared to the iPhone that is. I almost always lose my phone. As I write this, I have no idea where it is (though I think I left it in the bathroom this morning). My logic? Why should I spend a fortune on something that will either be stolen, get lost or accidentally fall in the toilet?

Beyonce’s Fall 2010 Dereon Clothing and Bedding Campaign is the ultimate embodiment of what it means to be Sasha Fierce. Beyonce looks fantastic! I admit when Dereon first came out, their style seemed ghetto which I wasn’t too happy about. But lately they seem to be stepping up their game. I blame all the bad choices on Mama Tina. Lil’ Kim was in Tanzania this weekend  for an annual party called Fiesta organized by Tanzania’s leading media house, Clouds Media which owns a TV station and the biggest FM radio in Tanzania. She performed in front of a crowd of 15,000 people. She did all of her hits and was joined on stage by African superstar “Nature na zali”. That thing covering her face scares me. Reminds me of MJ. I confess I am one of those girls who look at a man’s shoes before I notice anything else (Number 2 on the list is eyelashes sssshhhh).
